How Discount Calculation Works
Multiply the original price by the discount rate: Savings = Price × (Discount% ÷ 100). For $200 at 25% off: $200 × 0.25 = $50 saved.
Subtract savings from the original price: Final = Original − Savings. So $200 − $50 = $150 final price.
If you know the sale price and discount %, find the original: Original = Sale ÷ (1 − Discount%/100). E.g. $150 ÷ 0.75 = $200.
Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply the price by 0.20 to get the discount amount, then subtract from the original. Example: $80 × 0.20 = $16 saved; $80 − $16 = $64 final price. Our calculator does this instantly.
Discount % = (Savings ÷ Original Price) × 100. If an item was $120 and is now $90, the discount is (($120−$90) ÷ $120) × 100 = 25%.
Stacked discounts are NOT additive. A 20% discount followed by a 10% discount equals: Original × 0.80 × 0.90 = 72% of the original (28% total off), not 30% off. Use the calculator sequentially for stacked discounts.
